laserXtens Compact and Compact HP extensometers

These single-camera measuring systems are especially suitable for testing small to very small specimens. The measurement principle used requires NO gage marks and the test is a non-contact test. The system is highly accurate and easy to operate.

laserXtens Compact HP increases measuring accuracy by even compensating for lateral specimen movements, which occur in small, non-rigid specimens.

  • laserXtens Compact/Compact HP satisfies the requirements of Class 0.5 of ISO 9513 (Class B2 of ASTM E83).
  • 0.04 µm is the resolution for laserXtens Compact HP, 0.12µm is the resolution for laserXtens Compact.
  • These laserXtens extensometer can also measure transverse strain with no need for additional markings; biaxial measurement is also possible.

Extensometers using laserXtens systems provide non-contact measurement of deformations on a wide range of materials. They consist of measuring heads with digital cameras and laser light-sources. The specimen is illuminated with laser light, generating a speckle pattern on the surface. When the specimen is subjected to a load the virtual gage marks are displaced and the evaluation windows are updated. laserXtens calculates the strain on the specimen from the displacement between two consecutively recorded images.

  • laserXtens is integrated into testXpert II. Use of a separate 22“ monitor is recommended to enable the live image from laserXtens to be observed parallel to the testXpert II display.
